The Travellers Rest is a long established Public House, currently a family owned Country Inn situated at Brough Lane Head, Brough, in the centre of the Hope Valley in the heart of the Peak District. It has recently undergone refurbishment and now has five well appointed rooms, all with en suite and stunning countryside views.
It is only 1 mile from Hope and Bradwell where there are shops and a Post Office and 3 miles from Hathersage and Castleton at the junction of the A6187 and B6049. Hope railway station is a 10 minute walk and there are three bus stops right outside the pub for easy access around the Valley. The pub is open every day of the week, with bar meals and light lunches served in the day, with a more extensive menu in the evenings. There is a large car park, a large beautifully laid out garden with seating and heaters and a safe children's play area.

Brough has very strong links with Roman Times. The Roman Military Camp known as ANAVIO STOOD was situated only a few hundred yards south of the Travellers Rest, on land called the HALLSTEADS. It was believed to have been rebuilt around AD155-158 by a Roman Cohort which had been sent down from Hadrian's Wall to police the local lead mines, a source of wealth to the Romans. The camp covered an area of 310 feet by 270 feet. The public footpath to Hope crosses the camp and is worth a visit. A Roman alter stone was unearthed in a field close to the Travellers in 1980 and can now be seen in Weston Park Museum. The stone had been set up by PROCULUS, the commander of ANAVIO.
