Situated in the heart of the Peak District the 16th Century Cheshire Cheese Inn owes its name to being an overnight stopping point on the old salt carrying route from Cheshire across the Pennines to Yorkshire.

Payment for lodgings at the Inn was actually made in cheese – the original cheese hooks can be seen in the lower room.

Today it retains a relaxed, unspoilt, old-world atmosphere, with open fires, traditionally brewed hand-pulled beer and a reputation for good wholesome home made food.

The delightful location makes the Cheshire Cheese an ideal base for walking, mountain biking or simply relaxing. Well behaved dogs in welcome in the bar.

The Inn is a short distance from Castleton and its famous caverns, the wild moorland of Kinder Scout and the tranquil beauty of the Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs.
